Music is enjoyed by people all over the world. That is a simple fact. Music can help us to relax and wind down after a stressful day. Let's face it, what else is better than kicking your feet up and laying down on the bed, while listening to your favorite song?

Many musical instruments make up the sounds and melodies of songs heard the world over. What instrument is the most widely recognized though? The answer is of course, the piano.

With so many different genres of music out there today, it may surprise you to know that there are only two main categories of music. They consist of eastern and western tradition. The piano falls into western traditional music and is a great instrument to play solo, or with other instruments.

The piano is a great instrument to take up lessons on and it is no wonder that so many people love this instrument. Before you begin your lessons, take some time out to study what the piano is made of. You will notice it consists of keys, a piano bench, music rack, strings and hammers, and all sorts of great gadgets.

The part of the piano which you play, is known as the keyboard section. This is the part with 52 white keys and 36 black keys. This part of the piano has a lid which can cover the keys when not in use, so as to protect it from dust and debris. In the olden days, these keys were made of ivory, but today you will see a lot more made of plastic.

Any full size piano should come with 3 pedals, of which you typically only use one believe it or not. The pedals are used to modify to the notes you play. They can sustain a note, dampen its sound, and so on. Also be sure that the piano you are playing on has a place to put your music book or sheet.

With this basic knowledge at hand now, you should look for a piano teacher to help you with your studies. By having a great interest in piano too, you should be well off in the long run.

You can either take it as a hobby or transform your passion for music into a great profession. There is lot of scope for piano musicians as more and more music groups come into the music world and lots and lots of music albums are produced.
